Split options

Next to barcode recognition, splitting is the most important job of BarcodeOCR: a large scan batch is split into individual documents, and the recognized barcodes act as split marks. In this step you define the rules for this, and with them which output documents are created.

Split options step in the configuration wizard

The options build on each other. First you choose the basic split behavior. Only if you choose "Always begin a new document when a page with barcodes appears in the stack" are the other settings available.

Split behavior

Do not separate document stack

BarcodeOCR only looks at the first page and does not split the document.

Typical use: renaming single-page receipts.
Separate stack irrespective of barcodes on individual pages

Every page becomes a separate document, whether or not it has a barcode. The individual documents are still named after the barcodes.

Typical use: many single-page receipts are scanned as one batch, with or without a barcode label.
Separate stack irrespective of barcodes on n pages

The batch is split after a fixed number of pages. The partial batches are named after the barcodes.

Typical use: two-page forms. The split is correct even if a barcode is not recognized.
Always begin a new document when a page with barcodes appears in the stack

Every page with a barcode starts a new document. You define exceptions in the following sections.

Typical use: a batch in which documents have different page counts.

Page with the barcode

Only available with "Always begin a new document when a page with barcodes appears in the stack".

Do not delete page with barcode and treat as first page of the document

The default. The page with the barcode stays in the document.

Typical use: the barcode is on the first page of each document, for example on invoices.
Delete the page with the barcode from the target document

The page with the barcode is treated as a separator sheet and is not included.

Typical use: your documents have no barcode of their own. Before scanning, you put preprinted separator sheets between the documents.

Stack type

Only available with "Always begin a new document when a page with barcodes appears in the stack".

Documents comprise a start page with barcode and the subsequent pages without barcode

A page with a barcode starts a new document. All following pages without a barcode are attached. The next page with a different barcode starts the next document.

Typical use: a multi-page invoice has a barcode only on its first page.
Documents comprise a start page with barcode and the subsequent pages without barcode or with the same barcode

As above, but following pages with the same barcode as the start page are attached as well.

Typical use: a multi-page invoice has a barcode on its first page and sometimes the same barcode on the following pages.
Documents comprise a start page with barcode and the subsequent pages with the same barcode as a mandatory requirement

Only directly following pages with the same barcode are attached. The next page with a different barcode starts a new document. Following pages without a barcode go to the error folder.

Typical use: every page of an invoice carries the same barcode, and pages without one should stand out.
Documents comprise a start page with barcode and the subsequent pages with the same barcode as a mandatory requirement or each with an empty page

For batches from a duplex scanner. Two consecutive blank pages go to the error folder. At least one matching barcode must appear on any two consecutive pages.

Typical use: you scan with a duplex scanner that saves the front and back of each sheet.

Multiple matching barcodes on one page

Documents with multiple matching barcodes will be saved as separate file for each matching barcode

For every barcode that remains after the filters are applied, BarcodeOCR creates a separate file in the output folder.

Typical use: a receipt carries two different barcode labels, and a document should be created for each.
