Process network folders

By default, the BarcodeOCR service runs under the Local System account. This account has no access to network folders. If your input, output or error folders are on a server or NAS, assign the service a user account with the required permissions.

How to tell that permissions are missing​

The error log shows one of these messages:

No write rights on Folder: <path>
Unable to create or delete Files on Path <path>

Requirements​

User account with read and write access

You need the credentials of a user account that has read and write access to every network folder used in your configurations. The account should be a local administrator on the computer where BarcodeOCR is installed.

Always enter network folders in the configuration as a UNC path, for example \\server\scans\input. Mapped drives such as S:\ are not available to a Windows service.

Set up the service account​

  1. Sign in to the server or computer where BarcodeOCR is installed.
  2. Open the Control Panel, then Administrative Tools and Services.
  3. Find the BarcodeOCR entry in the list.
  4. Right-click the entry and select Properties.
  5. Switch to the Log On tab.
  6. Select This account and click Browse.
  7. Select the user account, for example MYDOMAIN\BOCR.
  8. Enter the account password twice and click OK.
  9. Confirm the message with OK and restart the service.

Check the result​

Put a test file into the input folder. If the credentials and permissions are correct, BarcodeOCR processes the file, saves the result to the output folder and then deletes the file from the input folder. If the error log still shows messages, check the account's permissions on every folder involved.
